Using DVFilm Maker, the DVX100 and Premiere Pro to edit at 24P

Premiere Pro has a special problem in that you cannot set the audio rate to 48048 Hz, which works best with DVX100 footage converted by DVFilm Maker to 24.000 frames/sec. The best workaround is to use an older version of Premiere like 5.1 through 6.5 that can edit 24P quicktimes with 48048 Hz audio. But for those who only have Premiere Pro, here is a suggested work-around:

    1. Convert your captured DVX100 clips to 24.000 fps in DVFilm Maker. Edit your clips in Premiere Pro "Video for Windows" editing mode, with the frame rate set to 24 fps and audio rate set to 48KHz. Premiere Pro will resample the audio from 48048 to 48000, but that's OK, it will still be in sync.
    2. Once you have your final cut, export a silent DV-NTSC Quicktime at 24 fps.
    3. Export a 48000 Hz WAV file (audio only) from Premiere Pro using best quality resampling. Then use a sound application like GoldWave(www.goldwave.com) to resample to 48048. Then use GoldWave again to set the playback rate back to 48000 without resampling.
    4. Convert the silent 24P Quicktime of your final cut to a silent, NTSC DV-AVI with 3:2 pulldown, using DVFilm Maker.
    5. Bring the new NTSC DV-AVI and the new soundtrack WAV file from step 3 back into a new project with Premiere Pro's standard NTSC project settings to record the program to tape.
    6. To author a 24P DVD, use DVFilm Mutate to convert the silent 24.000 fps quicktime to 23.976 fps. Then bring the silent 23.976P Quicktime and the WAV file from step 3 into an MPEG-2 encoding program like TMPGENC.
